Mr. Theodoros Fikardos
Mr. Theodoros Fikardos is not your ordinary winemaker. Most people will describe him as simple, friendly and passionate for his work. At the age of 22, he opened his own restaurant, having already worked as a waiter, a baker and a chef beforehand. His job helped him develop an appreciation for good food and nourished his passion for wine.
The wine making journey began only after he got married to Elli Fikardou in 1985. His wife came from a small village called Choulou, which was surrounded by vineyards. As most people from her village, she also owned some vineyards.
This was the perfect opportunity for Mr. Theodoros Fikardos to make his dream a reality. The first barrel of wine was produced in 1988. A limited production for his family, friends and customers of his restaurant. The following year, as demand increased, he decided to produced an extra barrel. Eventually, in 1990, with the help of his family, he decided to transform his hobby and passion into a full time job.
Fikardos Winery works in close cooperation with vine growers and always aims in selecting the best grapes for vinification. Besides working with international varieties, the winery gives strong emphasis to Cypriot indigenous varieties.
