Fikardos Shiraz 2014
A deep colored red wine made entirely from Shiraz grapes grown in the region of Paphos (Pano Arodes, Kili and Stroumpi villages). The warm climate of Cyprus helps our Shiraz grapes to fully ripen. This gives us the ability to produce a powerful wine with rich, ripe tannins. Fikardos Shiraz has intense flavors of dark cherries, blackcurrants, dark chocolate, black pepper and vanilla. This is a wine able to age for a further 8-10 years.
Fikardos Shiraz is a young red wine with plenty of tannins, this means we need a dish rich in proteins and/or fat. Try red meat dishes such as rib-eye steak instead of the leaner fillet steak, roast duck and grilled lamb chops.
Shiraz grapes in Cyprus
Shiraz was introduced in Cyprus during the late 70s. It has proven over the years to produce exceptional wines, some bold, rich and high in alcohol with plenty of overripe fruit and others more delicate and peppery. Shiraz grows best in poor, well-draining soils such as gravel, granite and limestone. Its berries are small to medium in size with a thick skins and have a round or slightly oval shape.
