A wine that embodies our passion, love and skill towards red winemaking. The first Leonardo was produced back in 2001 to celebrate the birth of Mr. Theodoros Fikardos third child. Since then it remains as one of our flagship wines. Leonardo 2012 is a powerful, deep colored red wine made from Shiraz grapes. Soft, ripe tannins and flavors of dark cherry, blackberry, blueberry, leather and clove.
The grapes were hand harvested early in the morning to ensure their temperature was low. The grapes were destemmed, crushed and let to cold soak for 3 days. Cold soaking is a process that enhances varietal aromas and color intensity. Fermentation was then carried out at an average temperature of 20°C, ideal to extract color and preserve fruit flavors. Immediately after we continued with malolactic fermentation which added more complexity to our wine. Leonardo was then matured in oak barrels for 10 months and bottled in November 2013.
Leonardo 2012 pairs very well with red meat dishes. Slow cooked dishes like beef stew, smoked pull pork and the traditional Cypriot dish Kleftiko are perfect pairings. Nevertheless Leonardo also pairs well with simpler dishes like T-bone steak and Peppercorn fillet Steak.
